Cessna Skyhawk 172R
FS FSX ADD-on
Publisher Flight1 Software
My question, what pilot hasn’t flown a 172? This is one of the most popular single engine planes in the world. Built like a truck, yet agile as a bird. Although the plane is rather slow, it is still fun to fly as in its basic configuration it is well behaved and generously forgiving. If you are not a mad, stupid daredevil, then this plane will provide you with most of your flying thrills for the rest of your life without shortening it.
The shoulder wing configuration allows for plenty of sight-seeing and positive feel on approaches. The tricycle landing gear makes it child’s play to land, even on short strips. One thing to remember, on short strips, you will need 40% more runway on take-off than landing. Simple equation, no need to tape it to the firewall. I call her the mini bomber as she does like a nice long take-off roll. Keep flaps to a minimum in most cases you probably wont need them. The plane is known for its big flaps, and when dropped to full you can actually enter into some steep approaches and still walk away alive and intact. The simulator will prove it to you.
The Skyhawk can actually fly really slow, but you need to keep a sharp eye on the stall speed especially on approach, if you try to catch it at low level with full throttle you probably will not survive. The Skyhawk can easily be caught from a stall, but not at low level, especially when applying full throttle as she will viciously snap roll due to engine torque.
This is a great plane to practise your IFR on. In reality many do, it’s cheap, forgiving and reliable. So get your kit out and keep up your skills. All the basics are on board.
Navigation via compass, VOR or even GPS, knock yourself out.
I’ve flown the plane in valleys and over mountains, landed on grass and tarmac and I can very well confirm that this is a delight to have. Despite it having a family van reputation, in the hands of a confident pilot you can really have plenty of fun hedge hopping. More than 42500 have been built.
Flight1 has done a great job with this and is worth the extra few dollars to own rather than fly the one that came as standard with FSX.

Features include a photo realistic 2D panel, 3D aircraft model, exceptionally clear virtual cockpit, new sounds, and flight dynamics that have been developed using the real performance tables.
The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is one of the most popular general aviation aircraft ever created. Tracing its roots back to the original production lineage of the late 1950's, the 172 Skyhawk has undergone many changes.
When the Cessna single engine facility re-emerged in July of 1996, the 172R Skyhawk was reborn. New features included a fuel injected Textron Lycoming IO-360-L2A engine with dual engine driven vacuum pumps, epoxy corrosion proofing, stainless steel control cables, thicker windows and new acoustic soundproofing. Cessna claims the 172R is significantly quieter than the O-320 it replaced, and it can produce its maximum power at just 2400rpm.
GMAX Aircraft Model - Designed in GMAX with exceptional detail. All control surfaces are fully animated, including the cabin door and cargo compartments.
Beautiful 2D-Panel -The 2D-Panel uses high definition technology for unmatched clarity and detail. The unique main panel perspective gives you the feeling of being in the real cockpit. The panel and subpanels can easily be accessed with the included "Panel Manager" which allows you to move around the cockpit with just a few mouse-clicks.
Clickable Virtual Cockpit - The virtual cockpit of the 172R includes incredible detail with full working gauges, switches, and moving parts. This cockpit sets a new milestone in terms of clarity for a virtual cockpit, allowing you to get the full experience of what its like to fly this beautiful aircraft.
Highly Accurate Flight Model - The flight model has been carefully developed right from actual performance tables.
Authentic Sounds by "MeatWater" - The sound package is digitally recorded from an actual Skyhawk 172R, by "MeatWater" Sounds.
Skyhawk 172R Tutorial Flight - The tutorial flight will challenge your flying skills and will require you to perform various manuevers to a given set of tolerances.
Configuration Manager - Use to add/remove passengers, add cargo to the baggage compartment, and then see if you fall within the specified weight limits to fly your aircraft. The configuration manager also includes two selectable flight dynamics models and a wheel pants off/on model.
Text-o-Matic for Repaints - Flight One's proprietary Text-o-Matic aircraft repainting utility allows you to download additional user created paint schemes and install them on your system with just a couple mouse-clicks.
The Skyhawk 172R package also includes extensive documentation, checklists, and specifications to get you flying in no time.
Flight One has provided a dedicated site to showcase the Cessna Skyhawk 172R in high-resolution detail. You can visit the Skyhawk 172R Showcase page at:

Two versions are listed below, and they work with the same key. So if you get the FS9 version, you can download the FSX version and install it with the key you received when you purchased the FSX version (use the 'Click Here to Reinstall Button). The same also works in reverse. If you get the FSX version first, you can use that same key to download and install the FS9 version. So it is safe to download either because both work with the same key.
A note to customers for the FSX version: The Text-o-Matic tool is not included in the download. This tool is used to apply custom repaints to the aircraft. Currently, the FSX version of Text-o-Matic is beeing worked on, and should be released shortly at the official Text-o-Matic download page.

Flight1 has included a special tutorial flight with recorded sounds that will help teach you how to flight the 172. The flight will watch your performance, and make sure you stay within the "instructor's" limits.
Windows XP Recommended - Although the Skyhawk 172R may operate under Windows 98 or Me, Flight One can't make any guarantees that you will not encounter problems when using the software with Windows 98 or Me. Flight1 highly recommends Windows XP as it is a true 32-bit operating system, and does not suffer from certain memory limitations of Windows 98 or Me.
